Before the Throne of God Above

before the throne of God above
i have a strong and perfect Plea -
a great High Priest Whose Name is Love,
Who ever lives and pleads for me
my name is graven on His hands
my name is written on His heart
i know that while in heaven He stands
no tongue can bid me thence depart
no tongue can bid me thence depart

when satan tempts me to despair
and tells me of the guilt within
upward i look and see Him there,
Who made an end to all my sin
because the sinless Savior died
my sinful soul is counted free
for God the just is satisfied
to look on Him and pardon me
to look on Him and pardon me

behold Him there - the risen Lamb
my perfect, spotless Righteousness
the great unchangeable I Am
the King of glory and of grace
one with Himself, i cannot die
my soul is purchased by His blood
my life is hid with Christ on high
with Christ my Savior and my God
with Christ my Savior and my God

1) nobody can nay-say me and my belonging to God and my presence in His kingdom and my childhood so long as Jesus is standing before God with "Lauren" written on His hands and heart. it just ain't happening. (and, hint hint, He sure as heck ain't movin'.)
2) the plea that Christ's very presence makes for me is "strong and perfect."
3) my despair because of my hopelessness in myself is shaken off by fixin' my gaze on Jesus, "Who made an end of all my sin." "God the just is satisfied to look on Him and pardon me."
4) i love this turn of phrase: "my perfect, spotless Righteousness". how absolutely incredible that we can be so possessive of the God of the universe!
5) "my life is hid with Christ on high" - reminds me of that fabulous out of the grey song "disappear" - "hidden in the way i was intended to be, i'm closer to You and farther from me, i would disappear... pulling focus from myself, now it's coming clear..."
