On the other hand, his politics were atrocious. Maybe not...

You cannot in one glance survey this most vast and beautiful system of the universe, in its wide expanse, without being completely overwhelmed by the boundless force of its brightness.” (Calvin's Institutes of the Christian Religion 52, Vol 1) He's no CS Lewis, but certainly more straightforward (and poetic!) than MANY theologians and philosophers.
