Pot Nug

so i'm watching top gun right now, which is not what i expected. the chick keeps trying to be grace kelly. yeah, sweetheart, good luck with that.

a TON of progress on the moving in/organizing front today. i am happy to report that almost all of my clothes are fitting in my dresser and in my closet. it has taken an insane amount of creative thinking to make that happen, which is due largely to the fact that i am a clothes nut. you probably knew that already though.

i love various forms of decorative creativity - wrapping presents, writing notes, creating stationery, putting stickers on everything (not literally), photography, and (my favorite) interior design. it's not like i'm good enough at any of those things to be noteworthy, but i really enjoy them. this could explain my large box of stickers or my signficiant marker collection.

tom cruise was never particularly attractive, was he? and then his mind went and so did all the poor guy's potential. at least he had some talent at one point or another.

i have been listening to lots of skip ryan sermons and a couple of john piper sermons. it's good times.

i am so weird. :)

I can't say whether or not Tom Cruise was good-looking. But I do know that Top Gun is one of the best movies of all time. You just can't beat lines like "Your ego is writing checks your body can't cash" or the Righteous Brothers kareoke scene, the coffee scene, the Val Kilmer preen and the motercycle fist pump, just to name a few. And I just got the Pot Nug title.

Top Gun is a classic. Strike that--Grace Kelly is a classic. Never before, never since, and never again shall there be any such as Grace Kelly. In another life I would live in on the French Rivieria and steal for a living only on the off chance that I might meet Grace Kelly in ol' Cary's place in some sort of anomolistic cosmic disruption of the space-time continuum. I know, I know: not likely. But one can hope, can't one?

Two great movies, though--one universally, one limited to an 80s sort of way. Can I get an 'Amen'?

what is it with men and grace kelly? not that she wasn't a fantastic actress and a nice lady, but heavens to murgatroid - what in heavens name about her demands such loyalty??

i'm not so sure i want to know the answer...

I'll venture a guess that it isn't so much her as the charater she played. Same would probably hold for Maureen O'Hara or Audrey Hepburn. Elegance, playfulness, "embraced femininity" (of a sort), quick wit, beauty, confidence, discretion, loyalty even, etc.

So, basically an unrealistically high standard to which men try to hold women. (Like a Mr. Darcy, perhaps? -wink.)

I've always wondered what that phrase ("heavens to murgatroid") meant, and what or where the heck is a "murgatroid." Any insight there, Laur?

Who's Grace Kelly?

oh my freaking gosh - you are kidding, right?

in the event that you aren't, go to blockbuster and ask for "to catch a thief" or "rear window."

Yeah, I'm kind of kidding. I know I've seen some of her movies but I can't really place her. I have seen rear window but its been a long time. I need to see "to catch a theif" though, I've heard its a great movie. Maybe I'll rent it soon.
